Aadhaar linking is now mandatory for LIC policy service. Here are all four methods — online portal, SMS, branch visit, and mobile app — with step-by-step instructions.

Linking your Aadhaar card to your LIC policy is now mandatory for most policyholder service requests, including premium payment receipts, loan applications, and claim settlements. If you have not done this yet, here is exactly how to do it.

**Why is Aadhaar linking required**

LIC uses Aadhaar as the primary KYC document for existing policies. It helps LIC maintain accurate records and reduces cases of fraud. IRDAI has mandated that all policyholders complete KYC, and Aadhaar is the accepted standard document.

**Method 1: Online through LIC portal**

1. Visit licindia.in and log in to your account. If you do not have an account, register using your policy number and date of birth. 2. Navigate to the KYC section or Aadhaar linking section. 3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. 4. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. 5. Enter the OTP to verify and submit. 6. Your Aadhaar will be linked to all policies associated with your account.

**Method 2: SMS**

Send an SMS from your registered mobile number to 9222492224 in this format: LINKAADHAAR <space> Policy Number <space> Aadhaar Number

For example: LINKAADHAAR 123456789 987654321012

LIC will send a confirmation SMS after successful linking.

**Method 3: Visit LIC branch**

Carry the original Aadhaar card and a self-attested copy. Fill the Aadhaar KYC update form available at the branch. Submit along with the copy. The branch will process the linking in 2 to 3 working days.

**Method 4: LIC mobile app**

Download the official LIC of India mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. Log in, go to Services, and select Aadhaar Seeding. Follow the OTP-based verification process.

**What if the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is different from your LIC-registered number**

This is a common complication. If the mobile numbers do not match, the OTP verification will fail for the online method. In this case, visit the branch in person with your original Aadhaar and biometric verification can be done there. The branch has a biometric authentication device that links Aadhaar using your fingerprint without requiring an OTP.

**How to check if linking is successful**

After completing any of the above methods, you can check the status by sending: POLSTAT <space> Policy Number to 56767877. Or log in to the LIC portal and check the KYC status for each policy.

**Multiple policies**

If you have more than one LIC policy, you need to link Aadhaar separately to each policy. The online portal allows you to link one Aadhaar to multiple policies in a single session.
