Marriage is the beginning of shared financial responsibility. The moment you marry, someone depends on your income. Here is the ideal insurance portfolio for a newly married couple in 2026.

## Step 1: Term Insurance for Both Partners

Both should have individual term plans within 6 months of marriage.

**Recommended:** LIC Jeevan Amar for each partner - Age 28, male: Rs 1 crore for 30 years - approximately Rs 7,500-8,500/year - Age 26, female: Rs 50 lakh for 30 years - approximately Rs 4,500-5,000/year

Start early - premiums are lowest in your late 20s. Every year of delay increases premium by 4-6%.

## Step 2: Family Floater Health Insurance

Switch to a family floater - covers both partners (and future children can be added).

Recommended: Rs 10-15 lakh for a young couple. Star Health, HDFC Ergo, or Max Bupa. Annual premium: approximately Rs 12,000-16,000.

## Step 3: Savings Plan for Future Goals

**Option:** LIC Jeevan Labh (936), Rs 5 lakh SA, 25-year term: - Age 35: approximately Rs 14,000-16,000/year - Maturity (indicative): Rs 12-14 lakh

## Step 4: Critical Illness Rider

Add LIC's New Critical Illness Rider to at least one partner's term plan. Rs 10 lakh lump sum on diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, or kidney failure.

## Year 1 Insurance Budget

- His term plan: Rs 8,000 - Her term plan: Rs 5,000 - Family floater health: Rs 14,000 - Savings plan: Rs 16,000 - **Total: Rs 43,000/year (Rs 3,600/month)**

Comprehensive coverage for under Rs 4,000/month.
